First Post!

Well it has been a few weeks since i left the US so i guess it's time i started posting on this blog, right?  So, here goes.

I've only been here 20 days and already I have been on 2 road trips, and seen much of Bogota. I got here around 1PM on the 29th  and already i liked what i saw

There are tons of modern buildings around mixed with older buildings, which i forgot to take pictures of :(.  Thankfully we didn't do anything too exciting because the next day we were up at 3 in the morning so we could make an 8 hour drive to Bucaramanga to spend New Years with  Julio's family(my aunt's fiance).  On the way to Bucaramanga we stopped to eat empanadas, see the mountains,

and go white water rafting in San Gil where the water was like a river of ice. It is also a Colombian tradition to eat where ever you stop while on a trip, because you can only eat that food while you travel there. All this turned our 8 hour trip into 16 hours, so we didn't get to Bucaramanga until 8 or 9. I didn't take many pictures while in Bucaramanga, but while we were there we saw different parts of the city, and on New Years we ate dinner at midnight ( another Colombian tradition) drank champagne( as Colombian 18 year old it is legal for me to drink, by the way), and went to a club. the 4 days we were in Bucaramanga, we ate so much that by the time we got back to Bogota, i could hardly eat anything. Another Colombian thing is that they eat larger portions while on holiday, and when family or friends visit they feed them a ton. So being friends and family visiting while on holiday we recieved XXL portions of food. It was crazy. Don't get me wrong, it was all delicious and amazing, but it was a lot.

Now back in Bogota, we visited the tallest building in Colombia, La Torre Colpatria.

We saw these ginormous duckies.

And we took another road trip, though much shorter, to a place about an hour from the city where we ate barbecue.

Here was another great view of the city.

This was the place we ate at, notice that there are not tables and chairs, just big rocks and tree stumps.

Then there was that cool swing on top of a hill for the kids.

And there is our food! It was amazing. Beef, corn, pork, guacamole, chicken, salsa, chorizo, a type or sweet raisin and corn bread, and more meat.

And the drink. Colombian beer mixed with Colombian soda. It was pretty good.

The only thing left was the salsa.

Our last destination on this trip was where the largest dairy manufacturer in Colombia is located. It was basically a large grocery store with only milk products. Cheese, arecipe, and lots and lots of desserts. We came here on the 8th and we still have coffee in the fridge..

I know i just skimmed through everything, but those are the more exciting things that i have done, and that i have pictures of :)
